Media Release: Lebanese Rugby League Federation

The Lebanese Rugby League Federation (LRLF) and members of the Lebanese Rugby League community, under the auspices of Michael Cheika [Lebanon Cedars: Head Coach], have agreed to lay-rest all previous disputes; reaffirming mutual commitments to shared goals. The Lebanese Rugby League family is more than ever united to achieve its common goals, which are the betterment of the game and its development in Lebanon. Disagreements have existed in the past, and reactive positions had been held, but the involved parties recognized that these were not in their best interests, nor the interests of the game’s development. The overarching focus must & will be upon the future and betterment of Lebanon Rugby League, as a whole.

“Lebanon now more than ever needs the unwavering support from all the Lebanese around the world.” Micheal Cheika added: “I am pleased that the LRLF has laid to rest all previous disputes and is fully committed to nurturing and fostering our great game in Lebanon and to achieving a successful world cup campaign.”

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 global pandemic, coupled with the socio-economic & political maelstrom that has become a harsh reality with the Republic of Lebanon, all sporting activities have been faced with unprecedented uncertainties.

“The Lebanese Rugby League family is reunited again.” LRLF President Maître Assaad El Feghali stated. “Together we can conquer all the obstacles on and off field.”

Further, through these testing times, the LRLF reaffirms its mission & vision to best represent the nation, through the sport of Rugby League Football, and maintain its values of community & solidarity, uniting the youth and promoting the core values of camaraderie and unity.

“Finally, I would like to thank all the players, coaching staff & officials, sponsors & partners, both the Lebanese and Australian committee members and last but not least our wonderful fans & supporters that contributed to success of the RLWC 2017 and RLWC Nines 2019.” LRLF CEO Nayef Abi Said added, “I have no doubt that under the leadership Micheal Cheikha we will have a successful campaign. I strongly encourage that all Lebanese within Lebanon and throughout our broad diaspora to fully support our national team in the coming Rugby League World Cup 2021.”
